This week, MAIA Consulting announced that the first three local students had completed the company’s first internship program aimed at growing the next generation of app development experts.
The three students, all of whom went through an eight-week training program, include Jasmin Holguin of New Mexico Highlands University, Isaiah Garcia of the University of New Mexico, and Kaitlyn Vigil of Mora High School. Their efforts led to HelperApps being completed for two local non-profit groups as well as a private customer.
A HelperApp is a web-based application designed to assist workers by automating time-consuming tasks. They are provided exclusively to rural small business owners in Northern New Mexico.
Once they graduate, interns may be offered a sponsorship to the Central New Mexico Community College App Developer Apprenticeship Program, which leads to a certificate recognized across all 50 states by the U.S. Department of Labor.
MAIA will be accepting applications for the next internship Program this summer, as the program will begin in August 2022.
