CENTREVILLE — Born and raised in Massachusetts, William “Bill” Liimatainen always wanted to publish a book.
Despite his formal education being in Aerospace Studies, earning his Master’s degree during his time with the Marine Corps, Liimatainen always had an interest in creative writing since he was a kid—however, his education required him to focus on his non-fiction skills.
A photograph of Les Bryant, Liimatainen’s late uncle, who he idolized and subsequently loosely based Ash “Smoke” Freeman off. This is the photo that Annika, Liimatainen’s daughter, used as a reference to sketch the portrait on the novella’s cover.
Annika, author William Liimatainen’s daughter, helped him design the book cover, her creativity sparked creative after reading a scene in which Casey receives a map with notes and polaroids of places that Ash “Smoke” Freeman has visited. Annika took that scene to the next level by adding a sketched out photograph of Smoke in the polaroid.
