Upcoming traffic impacts for construction on Haskell Ave. and Barker Ave. – City of Lawrence, Kansas

The City of Lawrence is beginning two construction projects this week that will have traffic control detours that flow into one another.

Contracted Street Maintenance at 11th & Haskell

On Thursday, Oct. 27, the City of Lawrence will begin street pavement rehabilitation on portions of E 11th St and Haskell Ave. This is part of Phase Two of the City’s annual Contracted Street Maintenance Program. As part of the work, Haskell Ave. will be closed to northbound through-traffic from 11th St. to 15th St. and 11th St. will be closed to eastbound traffic.

The closure of Haskell Ave. will flip to the southbound lane after the northbound work is completed. Each street closure is expected to last a couple of weeks.

The detours will be marked and located at 11th and Connecticut, 15th and Connecticut, 15th and Haskell, and 15th (N 1500 Rd) and E 1625 Rd. Access to the City Compost Facility will be from 15th (1500 Rd) North on E 1625 to 11th (N 1550 Rd). The closure will also affect Lawrence Transit Route #1, which will be diverted to Connecticut St. between 11th and 15th.

Property owners and residents will be notified a minimum of 48 hours in advance of any restrictions to their property. Please note that utility identification work, including location flags and small excavation sites may appear in your yard prior to the construction start date.

More information, including a complete map of the 2022 Contracted Street Maintenance Program, can be found on our website: lawrenceks.org/mso/street-maintenance.

Sanitary sewer improvements on Barker Ave.

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 27, the City will close Barker Ave. to through-traffic between 19th St. and 15th St. for both northbound and southbound traffic. The closure is for improvements to the sanitary sewer, and it is anticipated to last between four to five weeks. A separate street maintenance project is also planned for Barker Ave. after this sanitary sewer work is completed.

The closure will affect Lawrence Transit Route #15, which will be diverted to Learnard Ave. between 15th and 19th.

All project timelines are subject to change due to weather and other project-related delays. For more information on construction projects and traffic alterations in Lawrence, visit lawrenceks.org/construction.
